I have designed a created in 2D and 3D various Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS) sites and their transformer compounds from the provided specifications of equipment being used, site location and boundary, and any other parameters required, such as flood zone buffers, environmental boundaries, terrain and clearances. From this, I have designed in QGIS, Blender and Leaflet.js, BESS compounds with high precision and accuracy, that can then be used for public and private engagement and to inform and assist groundworkers in the surveys.
50cm DTMs were used in Blender to build the site upon so that slope and height differences across the site could be taken into account. Borehole data was also incorporated into the design, allowing for a quick data lookup of sub-surface and bedrock geology. Using a DTM also meant that ground removal volumes and costs could be estimated.
